Frostbite 2019 Fly-In, Spot landing contest and Potluck BBQ

Frostbite 2019 Fly-In, Spot landing contest and Potluck BBQ
April 13 & 14th at Dog Mt. (Glenoma, WA)

For any new pilots new to our group, Frostbite is our annual fund raiser for Dog Mt. The funds go to support the insurance, permits, port-a-potty and improvements at Dog Mt. Frostbite is a fun event that is kid and family friendly. It is a 2 day fly-in & spot landing contest. BBQ Potluck and music around the fire Saturday night. Awards and “left overs” lunch on Sunday afternoon. Come and camp out at Dog Patch for the whole weekend or just join us for the day! Pilots please show your support by coming rain or shine, if we have low attendance this year we may change how we do Frostbite next year by only having a 1 day “buy your Key day” without an camp-out event. We need our community support to make this continue!

We will need help with the following, let me know if you can help!

Tent and table set up Friday morning
Spot landing target
Music
Registration
Bonfire
BBQ
Candy Air Drop
Kids Craft / Activities
Judging (spot landings)
Garbage removal
Tent take down
Awards
Don’t forget to bring your favorite Potluck side dish, salad or dessert to go along with the BBQ!
Make sure your USHPA is current.

Check or cash for the event items:

2019 Chute Repack Clinic

If you haven’t hucked and repacked your reserve recently, mark your calendar for our almost-annual chute deployment and repack party, on Sunday, February 24 – face those rambunctious spring thermals with confidence inspired by a freshly packed rescue chute.

Thanks to hang pilot Cliff Schmitt, we’ve once again secured the February 24 date at the Eastside Fire & Rescue facility in Issaquah, at 175 Newport Way NW. It’s a big facility, with plenty of parking. We’ll be huckin’ and packin’ from 9-4, and we encourage pilots to come early (especially if it’s flyable-you can see Tiger launch from the parking lot…)

Parking will be on the east, north, and west sides of the headquarters building.

For those who haven’t attended one of our deployment parties before, here’s what to expect: There’s no formal instruction at the clinic – you come (preferably early in the day) with your harness and chute and the packing manual for your chute, you put on your harness (and, ideally, the helmet and gloves you wear while flying) and get in line. When it’s your turn, the Turbulator reviews with you the sequence for deployment, you clip into the simulator while the Turbulator spins you around and eventually yells “throw” You huck your reserve, hopefully according to the sequence you’ve just reviewed. You have an opportunity to discuss any problems or uncertainties you had about your deployment, then you gather up all your stuff and take it to one of the tables where the packing assistants will help you repack your chute and get it back into your harness. It's not a bad idea to bring lunch or a snack, just in case you arrive at a busy time when the lines are long.

Cost is $40 as always, to be divided between the packing assistants and the Saddle Mt. fund. If you’re a tandem or a biwingual pilot and have more than one chute to repack, it’s $20 for the additional chute. It’d be helpful if you could bring a check made out to CBCC, or exact change.

Please re-post on whatever social media site you use to share your flying info, and encourage your flying buddies to come join the party.

2018 Annual General Meeting

This year's big item is the recent loss of our Dog LZ permit from TPU.  We'll be discussing next steps and how we need to deal with WSDFW who administers the lakebed as part of the Federal land lease.  This doesn't preclude our using the lakebed to land, but it does eliminate our abilty to maintain DogPatch. Anyone with connections in Olympia is encouraged to attend.

It also is time for elections and discussion on what we want to do next year.  Nomination season for board and officer positions is also open!  Per our bylaws, President, VP, Secretary and Treasurer are all up for election.  FYI – If nobody new steps up and nobody resigns, the incumbents continue onward. (email me with nominations – you can nominate yourself if you're interested in one of the officer slots or board membership. We're also still looking for a safety officer and to fill various other committee opportunities)

Thanks for your support!

2019 Reserve Chute Repack Clinic in Issaquah

Hi Pilots!

2018 Parachute Deployment and Repack Clinic

If you haven’t hucked and repacked your reserve recently, mark your calendar for our almost-annual chute deployment and repack party, on this Sunday, February 25—face those rambunctious spring thermals with confidence inspired by a freshly packed rescue chute.

We’re trying a new venue this year, since there are no longer any community centers available for anything other than youth sports— thanks to hang pilot Cliff Schmitt, we’ve been granted access to the Eastside Fire & Rescue facility in Issaquah. It’s a big facility, with plenty of parking. We’ll be huckin’ and packin’ from 9-4, and we encourage pilots to come early (especially if it’s flyable—you can see Tiger launch from the parking lot…)

The fine print: None of us who repack our own reserves and help others repack theirs are experts in the field, and cannot be held responsible for being such. The packing assistants are comfortable in repacking their own chutes, and they will help you do yours. Our parachute deployment clinics are designed to provide you the opportunity to work out the best way to get your reserve out and inflated—before you actually find yourself in need of it. Packing assistants do not provide “legitimate” instruction in repacking your reserve; if you want instruction and/or a repack by qualified experts, this is not the place to be. If you feel reasonably comfortable repacking your own chute, but you need a hand interpreting your owner’s manual or would appreciate a reminder or some encouragement, this event can offer all of that. If you want to toss your reserve and then take it to a “legitimate” packer to be repacked, you’re welcome to show up at the party and do a practice deployment in the simulator (and toss $20 into the pot to support our sites…).

The facility may not be heated so please dress accordingly.
